It is known as the” Island of the Swallows” which’s name derivates from the Mayan words “cuzam” that means swallow, and “humil” that means “land of”, forming the word “Cuzamil”. As the first catholic mass in Mexican land was officiated right here, this relevant event is part of the fascinating history of Cozumel who also features Mayan archaeological sites such as the”San Gervasio“structures.

Cozumel is internationally recognized as a scuba diving paradise due to its location; facing the second world’s largest reef barrier and with turquoise blue water which allows the experience of being in contact with a striking marine spectacle.

Nature lovers and ecological tourists will be pleased by the natural jungle richness who offers a great variety of options: protected natural areas with many different ecosystems such as beaches, parks and reefs in which enjoying being in contact with the typical flora and fauna is an achievable experience as in “Parque Natural Chankanab” and the ecological reserve “Parque Punta Sur”.

The Caribbean charm of Cozumel attracts thousands of visitors every year, since it is a suitable place for the entire family as for those seeking for diversity and something different, offering dreamlike landscapes that allow a total relax in its beautiful beaches as well as adventure with lots of fun activities but above all, being in direct contact with the wonderful marine world.

Culture, traditions, history, beaches, exuberant vegetation, exotic flora and fauna, recreational activities and more can be found in Cozumel Parks, through the “Punta Sur” ecological park, “Chankanaab” Natural Park, the “San Gervasio” archaeological site, and the museum “Museo de la isla de Cozumel”.
