To offer Cozumel’s residents and national and international visitors, Cozumel’s Island’s natural resources through our natural Parks of Chankanaab, Punta Sur and San Gervasio; it will seek the form and the means so that through the Island’s Museum Cozumel’s social History is known and to promote culture, without forgetting to offer training and social assistance through the office of Pedagogy and Social Assistance Management.

To lead the execution of corresponding actions to promote, conserve, protect, maintain and manage Chankanaab Natural Park and all other Parks, Tourist Locations and Museums that are being managed.
To promote the interest and collaboration of the inhabitants of Cozumel’s Island, the State of Quintana Roo and other places in the execution of all activities and objectives being mentioned.
On June 11th of 1980 the Federal Government, through a decree that was published by the Federation’s Official Newspaper, declares that the occidental Island of Cozumel as an area of refuge to protect Flora and Fauna.
The Quintana Roo State Government in coordination with the Urban Development and Ecology Department on its September the 25th’s Decree creates Chankanaab’s Lagoon Natural Park, with the purpose to rescue and preserve one of the sites, which due to its beauty and natural scenery, constitutes one of the characteristic sites of Cozumel’s Island.
Through the decree of February 20th of 1987 Cozumel’s Museums and Parks Foundation is created, as a public and decentralized mixed organization, with social and private interest, with a juridical personality and its own patrimony.
It manages diverse sites of cultural and tourist interest in the island which are publicly owned by the State Government and which purpose include among others the management of Chankanaab and Punta Sur Ecological Reserve natural parks, San Gervasio Ruins and the Island’s Museum.
On March 31st 2005 there are reforms, modifications, additions and some derogations from the decree that created Cozumel’s Parks and Museums Foundation, Quintana Roo, where it mentions that Cozumel’s Parks and Museums Foundation, Quintana Roo is constituted as a public and decentralized organism from the Parastatal Public Administration of the State of Quintana Roo, and is of public and social interest, with juridical personality and own patrimony, subdivision to the Tourism Department.
